Prices are High - What Did I Find?

Okay we all know that groceries have gotten ridiculously expensive. This week I nearly laughed my you know what off as I walked through the aisles at Price Chopper. I still cannot get over some of the prices they were asking for items. For instance, ice cream sandwiches were $8.00 a box! Needless to say, I did not purchase any. Maybe I will try to make them from scratch.

Here are my go To's for the week:

1. Black bean burritos with rice.

2. Tuna Noodle casserole with a salad

3. Ham and Cheese casserole with fruit

4. Twice Baked Potatoes with sausage.

5. Shrimp and Pasta.

6. Pancakes and sausage

7. Sloppy Joes and Homemade Fries

Breakfast will be boxed cereal or pop tarts

Strawberries were on sale this week 2lbs., cantaloupe melon, and Lays chips 1.99 when you buy three.

What you need to have on hand: pancake syrup, eggs, milk, butter or margarine, baking soda, baking powder and regular all-purpose flour, ketchup and other seasonings of your choice, salad dressing.

Shopping List: 1 can of black beans .99, 1 package of rice 1.00, tortilla shells 2.59, salsa 2.19, 1 block of cheddar cheese 8 oz. 2.69, 2 cans of tuna .85 each, 1 package of dry egg noodles 1.50, 1 can cream of celery 1.39, 1 can of peas .65, 5 lbs. of potatoes 3.99, 12 oz sour cream 1.79, 1 lbs. of ground beef 6.49, hamburger buns 1.59, Shrimp 16 oz. 6.99, dry pasta of your choice .69, 1 can of mushrooms .99, Budding lunchmeat ham .99, Hillshire Farm rope sausage 3.49, Old South sausage 2.99, bagged salad 3.99 ( you might need 2 bags, 2 cans of fruit cocktail 1.49 each. In the produce section 2 lbs. of strawberries 4.99, cantaloupe 1.99, Lays potato chips 1.99 when you buy 3 and boxed cereal or pop tarts 1.99 when you buy 3.

This all adds up before taxes to around 70.00.

I have used basic recipes for all of these dinners. I like to use Pinterest if I would like to get fancier. I use the basic Betty Crocker recipe for the pancakes. Sloppy joes can be made from scratch instead of the canned item. This is just a ketchup-based sauce with a little onion, garlic and Worchester sauce. Obviously, you can make this to your liking or buy the canned sauce.
