Ugly topic I know, groceries. This is on everyone's mind lately due to the high cost of everything. I hate to think about it myself, even though budget shopping is kind of in my wheelhouse. This week we will using the Price Chopper Ad here in KC MO. I have come up with 7 dinners for the week. This will be for a family of 4. All dinners come up under the $10 mark. This beats Hy-Vee ad which includes dinners for $10 in their sales ad. This will ultimately save you money, so you have extra to spend on other items you need.
Meal #1: Chili with corn muffins: 3.99 1 lbs. ground beef, 2 cans of diced tomatoes $1, 2 cans of chili beans (Best Choice) .69, 2 packages of Jiffy corn muffin mix .79.
Meal #2: Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and Soup: Best Choice Cheese (buy 4 at 1.99 each), white bread Best Choice 1.39, Campbell's Soup (buy 4 at 1.99 each).
Meal #3: Pancakes and Sausage: 2 lbs. Best Choice Flour 2.69, 16 oz of egg substitue 2.49, 1/2 gallon of 2% milk at 2.89, Always Save pancake syrup 1.99, roll of Old South Sausage 2.69.
Meal #4: Turkey Burgers and Homemade Fries: 1 lb. ground turkey 3.49, hamburger buns 1.59, 5 lbs. of potatoes 3.99, ketchup 1.39.
Meal #5: Twice Baked Potatoes: FREEBIE. You will have everything on hand to make these. There is the extra cheese, salad dressing, leftover beans or turkey or sausage. It would be sufficient to have just a little to put on the top of these.
Meal #6: Pizza and Salad: Red Barron's Frozen Pizza 4.49 and 2 Dole Salad Kits 2 for $5, Best Choice Salad Dressing 2.49.
Meal #7: Beef Stew with corn muffins: 1 lbs. of Beef Stew Meat 4.99, Bird's Eye Frozen Veggies (buy 4), potatoes, diced tomatoes and corn muffin mix are already on hand.
Total for items above: $67.20
As far as breakfast, Best Choice Waffles are 1.99 and there is also an off-brand cereal for 1.79 a box.
Snacks were difficult this week, as there was not much on sale in this department. I would purchase apples for 1.79 a lbs. and Nutri-Grain Bars for 2.69. You can always add other items you might have on hand like white bread for cinnamon toast or leftover pancakes.
This list of meals should leave you some extra wiggle room to buy extras that you need or maybe just some items you want to add to your week. *** Side note: The above assumes you have some condiments, some spices like chili powder, salt and pepper. It also assumes you have some cooking items like butter or margarine. If you are truly strapped for cash margarine is the way to go to cook or bake and it is 1.69 for Best Choice Quarters.
