Easter is Coming - How Will You Handle It?

Recently, my mother and I started talking about Easter and what we planned to serve as far as food for our family. Of course, the dreaded "Ham" always comes into play. However, mom and I have recently started bucking the trends as far as what to serve. We have come to the conclusion that no one tells us what we need to serve on holidays. I mean we have all had our Martha Stewart moments in the checkout line at the grocery store. She makes it look so perfect. For a split second I want my holiday to be just like hers. Then I jolt back into the real world and realize that is pipe dream and no one really has holidays like that. If there are folks out there hosting fancy events, they are probably miserable people. While the ultimate freedom from the kitchen would be to buy already prepared food, I am just not willing to spend that. Maybe someday down the road.

Spending time with our family is the ultimate goal of any holiday get togethers. We don't like spending a lot of time in the kitchen preparing food or the cleaning up afterward. We have decided to get items that are easy to prepare and easy to clean up and throw into easy storage or just toss. If you are a greeny or a recycler this might not be for you. I figure for just the one day I am not committing too many offences. We will be on the lookout between now and then for paper items for decor and serving. If this is not something we can do for a pretty good deal, then we will look for items we already have on hand to use instead. I will make sure I update this in a blog closer to Easter. I will add pictures of what we will be using as far as serving and decor and maybe even some craft ideas for the kiddos.

Ultimately, we decided to serve Chicken Alfredo with a nice big salad. some sort of bread, a veggie tray, some deviled eggs and a couple of deserts. These will be easy to make ahead of time. Kids will never turn their noses up at this dish. And if it drops on the floor "oh well" alfredo cleans up easy.

Photos of what we made and used will be upcoming.
