This week had some great grocery ads, and it was rather hard to pick from. I ultimately decided that Hy-Vee had some better deals and better quality of food on sale. I will include 7 meals for 4 to 6 people along with breakfast and snacks. I will also take on Hy-Vee's Meal Deals for $10.00 and beat them!

  1. Banquet Pot Pies 1.08 $4.32 for 4

  2. Johnsonville Links $3.98, Lay's Chips $1.88 (2 bags), Chip Dips (2) $1.33, buns $ .99

  3. Brisket 2.99 lb. (about $15, this will be the splurge for the week), 1 Can of Bush's Baked Beans $2.49 (2), Potatoes 5 lb. bag for $2.68, barbeque sauce $1.28 (you might need 2)

  4. Roasterie Chicken on sale for .99 lb. so let's say about $5 for a 5 lb. chicken, so basically free with $5 off when you purchase 8 Knorr packaged sides. This works out to .62 a piece or $4.96 for 8 of these, a bag of carrots .99

  5. Leftover Chicken from above for a homemade Chicken Noodle Soup. We will make our own chicken stock from the Roasterie chicken bones, homemade noodles, leftover carrots and a can of peas .89.

  6. Chicken Drumsticks $6.44 in the crockpot with barbeque sauce, Lipton Side and potatoes.

  7. Deli Sandwiches 9.99 a lb. and you get free cheese. with chips and dip. Loaf of bread 1.59

Snacks- Chips and Dip and a gallon of ice cream for 4.99, grapes 1.88 lb. (2 lbs..)

Breakfast- Frozen Waffles 2.68

Items Assumed on hand, pancake syrup, butter or margarine, milk (for the Lipton sides), ketchup, mustard, miracle whip or mayonnaise, eggs

Homemade Chicken Stock: Debone the whole chicken after you eat your Roasterie chicken. Put the leftover pieces of chicken aside for the soup. Put all of the bones in water in a stock pot along with enough water to go to about the top or cover all the bones. Bring to a boil with some salt and pepper for about 10 minutes. You could always add other seasonings if desired. Let cool and put in fridge to use with your homemade chicken soup.

Homemade Noodles for Chicken Noodle Soup: 2 cups of flour, 1 egg yolk, about 4 tablespoons of milk. This is messy, put flour and 1 egg yolk and milk in the middle of the flour mixture once you have a nice hole in the middle of the flour. Mix with your hands until you have a mixture that is not super sticky. You will need to add flour as you go and roll out with your hands on your countertop. You can make this as thick or as thin as you like. I like to cut noodles out with a butter knife Again you could add whatever seasonings beyond salt and pepper as you like. You will stick these one at a time into chicken broth that has been in your stock pot. These will take about 10 minutes to cook through. You will then obviously add the leftover chicken pieces, some cut up carrots and a can of peas to this to finish your chicken noodle soup.

Let me address the Hy-Vee Family Meal Deals for $10. These are not bad deals perse, but I was definitely able to beat these prices in the meal plan shown above. After I added all of the prices up, I was able to keep this under $75.00 for the week including snacks and breakfasts.

I hope this is helpful to you this week as you shop. I truly hope you have a wonderful long weekend and are able to enjoy some time away from the office and work.
